For over 30 years, Robert Monkton Light, principal of Light Communications,
has been engaged on a wide range of communications projects for both
public and private sector organizations. Light Communications now draws
on this spectrum of experience to provide comprehensive consulting services
to corporate and government clients faced with diverse modern communications
challenges.
Background & Capabilities
After leaving New York City, Light founded and directed his first consulting
firm in Southern California: Corporate Communications Consultants (C3), based
in Laguna Beach. C3 was established to provide a broad palette of services to
clients such as The Irvine Company, Kilroy Realty, and other large southern California
based corporations. C3 produced original photography, brochures, linear and interactive
video programs, computer-driven multi-projector slide shows, and managed the
deployment of visual communications technologies in state-of-the-art corporate
conference rooms and highly sophisticated commercial real estate sales environments.
C3’s client list also included New York and southern California based advertising
agencies, print publications and multi-media production companies.
Continuing west to Hawaii, Light assumed the position of Corporate Communications
Manager for Liberty House of Hawaii, a Honolulu based retail firm with over $400
million/year in sales. For approximately 10 years, Light consulted directly with
the Liberty House CEO and other key staff to develop corporate communications
capabilities within the company. Light traveled throughout the Hawaiian Islands
and to other points in the Pacific, produced video and print corporate communications
materials, managed the development company-wide communications, and deployed
new communications technologies in retail and corporate boardroom environments.
Light also designed and deployed a non-linear video editing facility at the Liberty
House headquarters in Honolulu, managed the planning, installation and maintenance
of in-store video systems, and established live video teleconferencing capabilities
connecting New York City and Honolulu corporate offices.
Among Light’s most significant achievements while serving Liberty House
was to facilitate the development of an alliance between Liberty House, The Bank
of Hawaii, Time-Warner Communications, and CyberCom Inc., to help develop the
first internet web site to clear internet retail transactions directly through
a secure server branded to a major bank. Light served on the steering committee
for this alliance of leading companies for over 3 years.
Returning to California, Light managed government communications consulting assignments
for Logicon Advanced Technology, a division of Northrop Grumman, working for
a variety of State of California clients including the Teale Data Center near
Sacramento, and the Department of Health Services (DHS). Light assisted DHS technology
leaders prepare for the transition from the non-integrated, pre-Y2K information
technology (IT) environment, to the post-Y2K highly integrated IT environment.
Following the Logicon engagements, Light developed and managed strategic business
alliances for Carta Inc., an e-government focused company based in Sacramento,
California. For Carta, Light traveled locally and nationally to establish a network
of business alliances with other leading high-technology companies, attended
communications related legislative hearing at the nations capitol, and developed
relations with e-government experts to facilitate government's’s
transition current technology environments.
Mr. Light went on to serve with the global accounting and consulting firm KPMG in their IT Advisory Group, assisting public sector organizations with technology and organizational transformation.
As of 2008, Robert Monkton Light returned to managing his own firm, Light Communications, and is currently available to serve a limited number of local (California and Hawaii), national, and international clients on communications consulting and media production projects.
